California Police Warn Parents About the Dangers of Pedobear

Pedobear is another meme that grew out of 4chan culture. Although 4chan is a place where anything goes, as with the best of anarchical societies, 4chan members raise warning flags when danger is near. Pedobear was such a flag. He started out as Safety Bear which warned "You're being creepy about a kid." Pedobear grew in popularity throughout the Web as he became a satirical symbol mocking Pedophiles. Pedobear heads were placed on human bodies, Pedobear became various personalities wearing various costumes and some times he warned about pedophiles and other times he was a pedophile.  Urlesque's  A Beginner's Guide to Pedobear, the Internet's Favorite Pervert and Know Your Meme's entry on Pedobear  has more information about the "Internet's Favorite Pervert."

             

Now the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department are warning  parents about "a disturbing new phenomenon made popular by pedophiles and sexual deviants."  Yes this phenomenon is one of my favorite memes, Pedobear.  This needs to sit in the Urban Myth directory next to the LSD lanced tattoo warnings that use to hit schools every few years.  Here is the "Public Safety Information Bulletin" that was sent out warning about this new menace.  New menace, haaa, Pedobear is an old menace who has a wonderful new chapter in his renown career.
